ABOUT ME
I’ve been deeply captivated by the world of illustration for as long as I can remember. Its diverse applications, spanning from the enchanting pages of books to the dynamic realms of video games and the captivating scenes of movies, have always fascinated me. This unwavering passion has been the driving force behind my decision to apply for a foundation diploma in Art and Design, with a special emphasis on Illustration. The appeal of this program isn’t just rooted in my aspiration to make illustration my lifelong career, but also in the myriad of exciting opportunities and avenues it promises to open for budding artists like me. Additionally, as part of my commitment to continuous learning, I’ve been diligently researching university courses in illustration. Illustration as a course has stood out, promising a comprehensive curriculum that I believe can further refine my skills and mould me into a versatile illustrator.
Illustration, in my eyes, is much more than just drawing. It’s about weaving narratives, evoking emotions, and crafting immersive worlds that resonate with audiences. The sheer versatility of illustration, its’ ability to adapt and fit seamlessly into books, video games, or movies, is a testament to its’ power and influence. Every time I pick up a pencil or stylus, I’m reminded of this potential and the dream of one day contributing to these beloved mediums as a recognised illustrator.
My academic journey so far is a testament to my dedication and love for this art form. Currently immersed in a Level 3 Graphic Design course, I’ve taken every opportunity to excel, as evidenced by the distinction star I achieved in my first year. This course, building upon the foundational knowledge I gained from my previous studies in graphics, has been instrumental in shaping my artistic perspective and honing my technical skills. I firmly believe that progressing to the foundation diploma in Art and Design will be the next logical step, offering me a platform to delve even deeper into the intricate world of illustration.
As an artist learning how to become a professional illustrator and graphic designer, I have been through many struggles one of them being the fact I have ASD (autism) along with dealing with learning difficulites and this is has been a part of me throughout all of my life.
Therefore, having autism can have its benefits within my creativity becuase I feel as though I can produce artwork which is unique and outside of the box and I am proud of everything I have produced throughout my career so far.
However It can also can have its struggles, since I have learning difficulites it is very hard for me to process information within assigments or work, and also the pressure of workload can give me huge amounts of anxiety and this was shown throughout my first year of level 2 graphics.
I feel that I have excelled to improve as an Artist and within myself, which makes me very proud and I hope to achieve more in the future to make my dreams a reality.
After completing a further 2 years for level 3 graphics, I achieved a triple distinction.* I am proud to call myself a published author of my own children’s book Rose and her Fairy Shoes, my illustrator name is The Autist.
